A method of synthesizing 2S*, 3R*-6E-(2-hydroxyethylidene)-2-methyl-2-(4,8-dimethyl-5-oxo-7-nonenyl)-oxe pan-3-ol, one of the active ingredients in the zoapatle plant, is described. The active ingredients in the plant are useful as utero-evacuant agents.
