ABSTRACT:
A torque converter1is a device for transmitting torque by fluid, and includes a front cover14, an impeller18, a turbine19, and a stator20. The impeller18, the turbine19and the stator20constitute a fluid operating chamber6having a torus shape. Flattening (L/D1) is less than or equal to 0.18, wherein D1 is an outer diameter of the fluid operating chamber6and L is the axial direction length of the fluid operating chamber6. In the impeller shell22, a surface22aon which the impeller blades23are fixed has an impeller straight portion22bshowing a straight line in a cross section. In the turbine shell25, a surface25aon which the turbine blades26are fixed has a turbine straight portion25bshowing a straight line in a cross section.
