ABSTRACT:
A new method for designing a tire comprises the steps of laying up a tire having a stiff lower sidewall portion (18b) that has a high modulus apex (17) and a high turn-up (16a) and a concave shape, a flexible upper sidewall portion (18a) that is decoupled from the tread (22). The tread (22) is supported by a wedge (21) and extended belts (20) to substantially eliminate lateral curvature. The tire of the invention also has a rhomthat comprises 60% of the section height (SH) of the tire and a shoulder radius that defines a convex shape in upper sidewall portion (18a).
