A thermosensitive recording element comprising a support having a Sheffield smoothness of less than 60, and at least one layer provided thereon wherein said layer comprises an organic polymeric binder, a substantially colorless electron donating dye precursor and an electron accepting compound capable of forming color by reacting with said dye precursor, wherein the binder, the electron accepting compound and the dye precursor have a particle size of less than about 3.mu..
