A thermal print element comprising a support having thereon a layer containing a thermally-transferred dye image, the dye image comprising a yellow merocyanine dye having the formula: ##STR1## wherein: A and B each independently represent --COR, --COOR, --CONHR, --CN, --SO.sub.2 NR.sub.2 ; or A and B may be combined together with the carbon atom to which they are attached to form a conjugated heterocyclic ring system;
