ABSTRACT:
Disclosed are oligonucleotides having nucleotide sequences that hybridize to at least nucleotides 324 to 348 of a conserved gag region of the HIV-1 genome. These oligonucleotides have about 25 to 30 nucleotides linked by at least one non-phosphodiester internucleotide linkage which render them resistant to nuclease digestion. Also disclosed are therapeutic formulations containing such oligonucleotides and methods of inhibition HIV-1 proliferation and of treating HIV-1 infection in a mammal.
