ABSTRACT:
A novel class of compounds has been prepared comprising the tetrasulfides of C.sub.18 hydrocarbons, C.sub.18 fatty acids, and C.sub.18 fatty and alkyl and triglyceride esters. These tetrasulfides are useful as extreme pressure lubricant additives and show potential as replacements for sulfurized sperm whale oil.
