ABSTRACT:
Heat activated, fabric conditioning products are made by impregnating a thick, absorbent substrate with fabric-conditioner chemicals. Such products are designed for use at elevated temperatures encountered in laundry dryers. This invention provides an improved process for making such products and an apparatus for applying liquids to the substrate. Previously a doctor blade was used in combination with a roller to limit the volume of liquid being applied to the substrate during compression of the substrate in a nip. The present invention concerns a thin wire drawn under tension which can function as the doctor to obtain a smooth thin film of liquid on the lower roller of the nip used for applying the liquid to the substrate.
