ABSTRACT:
A system, device, and method for localized information processing in a multiprotocol label switching network enables one or more intermediate devices to process locally significant information in certain packets. Each locally significant packet includes a local significance indicator and optionally includes a processed indicator indicating whether or not the packet has been locally processed. A designated intermediate device decides whether to locally process the packet based upon the local significance indicator and optionally the processed indicator.
