ABSTRACT:
A system10for selectively and rapidly preheating one or more vehicle fuel cells12during cold start or freezing conditions. The system10includes a bypass valve26, a controller30, vehicle sensors32and a bypass conduit54. The controller30monitors vehicle attribute data by use of sensors32to determine whether a cold start condition exists. Based upon the attribute data, controller30may signal valve26to bypass heat exchanger18, and cause compressed air to be delivered directly to fuel cells12, thereby heating the fuel cells12.
