ABSTRACT:
Neoalkanols of the formula R.sub.1 R.sub.2 R.sub.3 CCH.sub.2 OH are synthesized by hydrogenation of a neoacid of the formula R.sub.1 R.sub.2 R.sub.3 CCOOH, wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are the same or different alkyl of 1-10 carbon atoms, at a temperature of 175.degree.-350.degree. C. and a hydrogen pressure of 10-100 Kg/cm.sup.2 over a copper oxide/zinc oxide hydrogenation catalyst.
