ABSTRACT:
Neoalkanes of the formula R.sub.1 R.sub.2 R.sub.3 CCH.sub.3 are synthesized by hydrogenation of a neoacid of the formula R.sub.1 R.sub.2 R.sub.3 CCOOH or a neoalcohol of the formula R.sub.1 R.sub.2 R.sub.3 CCH.sub.2 OH, wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are the same or different alkyl of 1-10 carbon atoms, at a temperature of 250.degree.-500.degree. C. over a copper oxide/zinc oxide catalyst.
