A vapor phase process for selective conversion of fluorodichloromethane and carbon tetrachloride to fluorotrichloromethane, difluorodichloromethane, difluorochloromethane and chloroform by contacting a solid catalyst of an activated mixture of iron oxide and rare earth oxides.
