ABSTRACT:
A surgical suturing assembly and method of suturing are provided. The suturing assembly comprises a surgical needle having a pin within a casing or sheath having an aperture, wherein the pin of the needle is within the casing aperture. A suture is attached to the needle, casing or both. In use, a surgeon slides the pin of the needle, forcing the sharpened distal point of the needle to project through the distal opening of the casing. Once the distal portion of the needle/casing assembly penetrates the tissue, the sliding force is released or retracted which causes the needle to return to its original position, leaving an unsharpened point for further manipulation. The chance of needle-stick is thus greatly reduced.
