Highly effective and orally administrable sustained-release preparation of an antihypertensive agent, pinacidil (N"-cyano-N-4-pyridyl-N'-1,2,2-trimethylpropylguanidine) comprising a rapid-release and a slow-release component at a ratio of about 7:3 to about 1:9 by pinacidil weight.
