ABSTRACT:
In a surround headphone output signal generator for generating multichannel sound signals from digital audio data, and combining the sound signals for the respective channels to generate two-channel surround headphone output signals for outputting to headphones, a DIR10detects from the digital audio data a sampling frequency (FS) included in the digital audio data concerned. A microcomputer13selects an attenuation coefficient α1 or α2 in accordance with the sampling frequency (FS) detected by the DIR10,and attenuates the levels of surround headphone output signals Lo and Ro on the basis of the selected attenuation coefficient α1 or α2.
