ABSTRACT:
The compound p-aminophenol is prepared by catalytically hydrogenating nitrobenzene in an acidic reaction medium containing an amine of the formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R represents an alkyl group having from 6 to about 20 carbon atoms; R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different, and are represented by the formula --[(CH.sub.2).sub.m O].sub.n H, wherein m is an integer of from 1 to about 5 and n is an integer of from 1 to about 10.
