ABSTRACT:
Provided is a surface plasmon resonance sensor device having excellent measurement accuracy. The device is equipped with an optical fiber2,32for introducing a light incident from one end thereof to the other end, a core exposed portion3,33aformed to expose core5,33of the optical fiber2,32, and a thin metal film4,35formed on the core exposed portion3,33aand capable of exciting surface plasmon. The core exposed portion3is a first microsphere3disposed at the other end portion of the optical fiber2and the thin metal film4is formed on the surface of the microsphere3. The thin metal film may be a first fine-metal-particle thin film25in which fine metal particles24have been distributed uniformly. The core exposed portion33ais disposed in the midway of the optical fiber32and the thin metal film35is formed to cover therewith the entire surface of the core exposed portion33a. The core exposed portion33ais equipped with a second microsphere36formed integral with the core33and the thin metal film35is formed to cover the microsphere36. The thin metal film35may be a second fine-metal-particle thin film38in which fine metal particles37have been distributed uniformly.
