ABSTRACT:
A chip resistor includes an insulating substrate11, top terminal electrodes12formed on top surface of the substrate using silver-based cermet, bottom electrodes13, resistive element14that is situated between the top terminal electrodes12and overlaps them partially, an optional internal protective coating15that covers resistive element14completely or partially, an external protective coating16that covers completely the internal protection coating15and partially covers top terminal electrodes12, a plated layer of nickel17that covers face sides of the substrate, top12and bottom13electrodes, and overlaps partially external protective coating16, finishing plated layer18that covers nickel layer17. The overlap of nickel layer17and external protective layer16possesses a sealing property because of metallization of the edges of external protective layer16prior to the nickel plating process.
