ABSTRACT:
The sulfur-containing alkanecarboxylic acids of the formula ##STR1## possess herbicidal and plant growth-regulating properties. In this formula, A is the cyano group, the carboxyl group, a carboxylic acid salt or a carboxylic acid ester, thioester, or carboxamide radical, n is O, 1 or 2, Q is a substituted phenyl or pyrid-2-yl radical, R.sub.3 is a halogen atom, cyano, or nitro group, R.sub.4 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkenyl or C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkynyl, phenyl or benzyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkoxyalkyl or C.sub.3 -C.sub.12 cycloalkyl.
