ABSTRACT:
The invention provides a means for making a high functional (.gtoreq.6.5), low viscosity, low hydroxyl number sucrose-based polyether polyol. The process involves the use of a polyalkylene polyamine, such as diethylenetriamine, as both co-initiator and catalyst for the alkoxylation reaction of sucrose. These polyols are particularly suited for the production of rigid polyurethane foams having excellent dimensional stability, particularly at low temperatures.
