ABSTRACT:
Galactopyranoside derivative compounds for use as substrates for hydrolysis by enzymes with .beta.-galactosidase activity are provided. The concentration of the reaction products can be measured by spectroscopy. The compounds find particular use in diagnostic assays for detection of analyte.
