ABSTRACT:
A fragrance and/or flavor compound of the general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is one of propyl or a 2-propenyl group and R.sub.2 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl group, said compound having exactly one R.sub.1 and from one to four R.sub.2. The compounds possess antimicrobial activity as well as flavor or odor characteristics acceptable for use in flavors and fragrances, respectively. The compounds are useful in forming flavor and/or fragrance compositions having antimicrobial activity. Product formulations, such as detergents, are useful for imparting both acceptable fragrance and antimicrobial properties. Other product formulations, such as mouthwashes, are useful for imparting both acceptable flavor and antimicrobial properties.
