DESCRIPTION:

BRIEF SUMMARY
This application is a National Stage Application of PCT/EP93/01216 filed May 14, 1993 and published as WO 93/24456 on Dec. 9, 1993.
The present invention relates to substituted isoindolones of the general formula I ##STR2## where the variables have the following meanings: R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are -C.sub.6 -alkynyl, tri-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl)silyl-C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 -alkynyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -cyanoalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxycarbonyl, formyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylcarbonyl, phenylcarbonyl where the phenyl ring can be unsubstituted or can carry one to three radicals selected from a group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy, halogen, cyano, nitro and trifluoromethyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxycarbonyl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxycarbonyl-C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 -cycloalkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -haloalkyl, selected from a group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy, halogen, cyano, nitro and trifluoromethyl, or R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, together with the common C atom to which they are bonded, are a three- to eight-membered saturated or unsaturated non-aromatic carbo- or heterocycle which can carry one to three N atoms and an additional oxygen or sulphur atom and also one or two carbonyl groups, and can be substituted by one to three identical or different C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl groups; saturated or partially or completely unsaturated and can carry one to four heteroatoms, selected from a group consisting of one to four nitrogen atoms, one or two oxygen atoms and one or two sulfur atoms, where the heterocycle can carry one of the following substituents on each substitutable atom: C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl, halogen, cyano, nitro, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxycarbonyl, or --C(R.sup.10).dbd.N--R.sup.11, --C(X.sup.1 R.sup.14) (X.sup.2 R.sup.15)R.sup.10, --P(R.sup.12) (R.sup.13).dbd.O, where -C.sub.4 -alkynylene chain which can in each case be unsubstituted or can carry one or two radicals selected from a group consisting of halogen, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxycarbonyl and C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylcarbonyl; -C.sub.6 -alkynyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -haloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 -cycloalkyl -C.sub.6 -alkynyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 -cycloalkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 -haloalkyl, selected from a group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl, halogen, cyano, nitro, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy and C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxycarbonyl, -C.sub.6 -alkoxycarbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxycarbonyl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoximino-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl; selected from a group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl, halogen, cyano, nitro, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy and C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxycarbonyl; are hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkynyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 -cycloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylcarbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxycarbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl or phenyl which can be unsubstituted or can carry one to three radicals selected from a group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl, halogen, cyano, nitro, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy and C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -alkoxycarbonyl, or where R.sup.8 and R.sup.9, together with the common nitrogen atom, form a saturated or partially or completely unsaturated 4- to 7-membered ring which can additionally contain one or two further heteroatoms as ring members, selected from a group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur; -alkoxy)-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylthio-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl; -alkynyl, -C.sub.6 -alkynyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 -cycloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -haloalkyl, selected from a group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl, halogen, cyano, nitro, C.sub.1
