The substituted butanoic acid esters 2-(4-azidophenyl)-3-methylbutanoic acid, .alpha.-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl ester and 2-(4-azidophenyl)-3-methylbutanoic acid, 3-phenoxybenzyl ester are useful as insecticides.
