BRIEF SUMMARY
The present invention relates to novel substituted 3-phenylpyrazoles of the formula I ##STR2## in which

R.sup.2 is cyano, trifluoromethyl or halogen;
R.sup.3 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkyl;
R.sup.4 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkyl;
R.sup.5 is hydrogen, nitro, halogen, --COOR.sup.29 or --CO--N(R.sup.30, R.sup.31);
Z is oxygen, sulfur, --SO--or --SO.sub.2 --;
X and Y independently of one another are oxygen or sulfur;
A is a chemical bond, methylene, ethylene, 1,3-propylene, 1,4-butylene, vinylene or 1,4-butadienylene;
R.sup.6, R.sup.29 independently of one another are hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -haloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 -cycloalkyl which may in turn carry from one to three C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 -alkyl radicals, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.7 -cycloalkenyl which may in turn carry from one to three C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 -alkyl radicals, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -haloalkenyl, cyano-C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkynyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, 2-tetrahydrofuryl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -alkyl, 3-oxetanyl, 3-thietanyl, carboxyl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -alkoxy)carbonyl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy)carbonyl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, cyclopropylmethyl, (1-methylthiocycloprop-1-yl)methyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.9 -(.alpha.-alkylalkylidene)-iminooxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)carbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl which is substituted by --C(R.sup.19).dbd.N--O--(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl), --C(R.sup.19).dbd.N--O--(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkyl), --C(R.sup.19).dbd.N--O--(C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl), --C(R.sup.19).dbd.N--O--(C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -haloalkenyl) or --C(R.sup.19).dbd.N--O--(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl),--R.sup.34, phenyl, phenyl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, phenyl-C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 -alkeny
