ABSTRACT:
Glass is strengthened against failure under tension by treating the glass with a combination of straight chain, saturated, terminal monocarboxyl fatty acid plus the salt of an alkali metal or an alkaline-earth metal, both dissolved in an inert carrier and applied to the glass at a temperature in a preferred range between 100.degree. and 300.degree. C., after which the glass is slowly cooled to avoid thermal stress.
