ABSTRACT:
The stimulation of erythropoesis in humans and other warm-blooded animals is produced by administration of an effective amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of 3.alpha.-hydroxy-5.beta.-estrane-17-one and the 3-esters and 3-ethers thereof, preferably 19-noretiocholanolone. The steroids are particularly advantageous in that they exhibit an unexpected low level of pyrogenicity as compared to etiocholanolone, a known pyrogen.
