ABSTRACT:
In an overhang type starter, an output shaft having a pinion for rotating a ring gear of an engine is arranged so as to move forwardly through an interlocking member by a shift lever which is turned by an electromagnetic switch. Accordingly, it is not necessary to move an over-running clutch large in weight by the shift lever, so that the electromagnetic switch can be made compact in size.
