ABSTRACT:
A stable, high concentration urea-formaldehyde composition having a urea to formaldehyde ratio from about 1:1.5 to 1:2.8, a free formaldehyde content of less than 3% and an active ingredient concentration of greater than 60%. Additionally, a method for making the composition comprising adjusting the pH of a mixture of urea and formaldehyde having a urea/formaldehyde ratio greater than about 1:4 to a value greater than about 10, reacting the mixture of the temperature from about 100.degree. to 230.degree.F and adjusting the urea/formaldehyde ratio during the reaction time to the desired final value. The composition is useful for imparting crease and wrinkle resistance to textile fabrics, coating of paper, and bonding of wood.
