ABSTRACT:
This invention relates to dyes which are resistant to hypochlorite attack, exemplary of which are anthraquinone dyes of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein X.sub.1, X.sub.2, X.sub.3, X.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7, and R.sub.8 are defined within the specification. The invention also relates to hydrophobic latex particles, such as polyethylene, in which such dyes are deposited. A combined liquid bleaching and dyeing composition is disclosed which includes the aforementioned particles in hypochlorite liquid bleach at a pH above about 11. This composition has sufficiently long shelf life for the purposes of ordinary commerce.
