ABSTRACT:
A spring-biased pivoting squeegee10provides a head12pivotally attached to a handle16. The head12is movable between a rest position, in which the head12is angularly displaced from the handle16, and a biased position in which the head12, handle16, and wiping blade14are in linear relation. In the biased position, the wiping blade is maintained at an optimum angle for cleaning a glass surface even with the handle16held generally perpendicular to the glass. A spring60is fully contained in the head12and biases the head toward the rest position. A tension adjustment knob80in the head12permits adjustment of the spring60to a tension level according to the ergonomic requirements of a user. In a second embodiment of the invention an improved locking mechanism comprises a pivoting lock lever260held against the top wall262of a recess264in the head202of the squeegee by a retainer278. The lock260is movable between locked and released positions. In the locked position stop surfaces276on the lock lever abut with upward facing ledges256of side plates250on the forward portion of the main handle body208to lock the head202in the biased position. Two springs306have forward projections308which rest in downwardly biased engagement on a spring pull nut304. The spring pull nut304is adjustable by turning an adjustment knob294to modify the tension on the springs. Slip-resistant surfaces on the handle208and head202improved handling of the squeegee.
