ABSTRACT:
A kit containing a splitter and drill guide for installing the splitter behind a circular saw blade to prevent contact between the cut work piece and the upwardly moving rear portion of the saw blade. The splitter includes a plurality of pegs that are installed into splitter location holes drilled into the saw work surface or a zero clearance insert. The holes are positioned using the drill guide that is indexed from the side of an actual kerf rather than from a side of the saw blade. In this manner, variations in kerf width resulting from variations in blade width and vibration of the saw blade are accommodated. Splitters having incremental amounts of offset between the centerline of the pegs and the planar surface of the splitter may be selected to provide a desired degree of interference and resulting force between the splitter and the work piece.
