ABSTRACT:
A specific dye set is provided for use with thermal ink-jet color printers, such as Hewlett-Packard Company's DeskJet.RTM. printer. The dye set comprises Direct Blue 199 and Acid Blue 9 (cyan), Reactive Red 180 and Acid Red 52 (magenta), and Acid Yellow 23 (yellow), of which Direct Blue 199 is treated to replace its associated sodium or ammonium cation with tetramethylammonium (TMA) cation. The present dye set enables an ink-jet color printer to produce high-quality color images in a reliable manner less encumbered by the potential for crusting and precipitation of dye salt deriving from the use of Direct Blue 199 dye as associated with sodium or ammonium in the presence of a high inorganic salt content (3 to 11 wt %), which is used to control bleed between black and the color inks.
