The present invention relates to novel soluble N.sub.2 substituted derivatives of 2,4-diamino 5-benzyl pyrimidines. These derivatives correspond to the general formula III below: ##STR1## The novel soluble N.sub.2 substituted derivatives are powerful antibacterial agents.
