ABSTRACT:
A solid-state image device includes a pixel portion with n pixels arranged a first direction and a first and second charge transfer portions substantially orthogonally to each other. Further, the solid-state image device having a driving circuit for driving the first charge transfer portion, wherein the driving circuit drives the first charge transfer portion so as to (1) read a signal from an i-th pixel counted from the side of the second charge transfer portion among the n pixels arranged in the pixel portion to a j-th bit portion of the first charge transfer portion, (2) transfer the read signal in the first direction by (k-1)/k bits, (3) define i=i+1, and (4) repeat the steps (1) through (3) from a first pixel closest to the second charge transfer portion to a pixel farthest from the second charge transfer portion among the pixels arranged in the pixel portion, where k is an integer of 2 or more, and j=INT[{(I-1)/k}+1] (where INT[ ] is an integer portion of[ ] (a fractional portion is discarded)).
