Soil testing apparatus comprising two dialytic tubes, one of the tubes containing a dialyzable solution containing H-ions and the other tube containing a dialyzable solution containing carbonate (CO.sub.3)ions. The invention also concerns a method of testing a soil sample using such an apparatus.
