ABSTRACT:
Sodium carboxymethylcellulose is disclosed wherein the average degree of substitution (DS) of carboxymethyl groups per anhydroglucose unit is in the range of 0.4 to 1.6, the number-average degree of polymerization is in the range of 100 to 1,500, and the mobility distribution (.DELTA.U) as measured by electrophoresis is represented by the following formula:
