ABSTRACT:
Sulfur dioxide is removed from oxygen-containing gases by contacting them with water having dispersed therein a chelate of manganese and a .beta.-diketone. The sulfur dioxide is oxidized to SO.sub.3 and absorbed into the water thus forming sulfuric acid.
