ABSTRACT:
A membrane for gas separation which comprises a silylated polyphenylene ether is disclosed. Said silylated polyphenylene ether contains a constituting unit containing an organosilane or siloxane group represented by the following formula in at least a part of the repeating unit thereof: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 each represents a hydrogen atom or a group of the formula --Si(R.sub.5)(R.sub.6)(R.sub.7), wherein R.sub.5, R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 each represents an alkyl group; l and n each represents 0 or an integer from 1 to 3; and m represent an integer of from 1 to 3; with the proviso that R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 do not simultaneously represent hydrogen atoms.
