ABSTRACT:
A silver halide photographic material comprising a support having thereon at least one hydrophilic colloid layer containing at least one dye represented by formula (I), ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a substituted aryl group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group, each group being substituted by at least one carboxylic acid group or sulfonic acid group; R.sub.2 represents --CONR.sub.3 R.sub.4 or --NR.sub.3 COR.sub.4, wherein R.sub.3 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group and R.sub.4 represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl group having a hydrophobic substituent constant .pi. in the range of about 1.60.ltoreq..pi..ltoreq.about 3.90; L.sub.1, L.sub.2, and L.sub.3 each represents a substituted or unsubstituted methine group; and n represents 0, 1, or 2.
