ABSTRACT:
Preceramic polymers composed of [R.sub.2 SiC.tbd.CSiR.sub.2 ] and, optionally, [R.sub.2 Si] units are described where R is hydrogen, an alkyl radicals containing 1 to 8 carbon atoms, phenyl radicals, or vinyl radicals. These preceramic polymers may be converted into silicon carbide-containing ceramic materials by pyrolysis at elevated temperatures.
