ABSTRACT:
A sheet handling apparatus receives on a handling tray a plurality of sheets discharged from an image recording apparatus such as a printer, a copier or the like in a first direction, thereby forming a sheet stack of a series of sheets on the handling tray, and transfers the sheet stack onto an accumulation tray which is disposed with respect to the handling tray in a second direction which intersects the first direction. A first gripper grips the sheet stack on the handling tray and transfers it toward the accumulation tray in the second direction, and a second gripper which grips the sheet stack at an edge portion on the image recording apparatus side receives the sheet stack from the first transfer means after the first transfer means transfers the sheet stack by a predetermined distance in the second direction and transfers the sheet stack in the second direction.
