ABSTRACT:
A sequential stepped movement staging device comprises six legs70of equal length extending radially from a central sphere46in an X-Y-Z orthogonal relationship. The sphere46and legs70are held in a horizontally fixed position relative to a support surface14by a holder including a primary retaining member40, a secondary retaining member74fixed in superposition to the primary retaining member40, and an alignment cylinder84. The secondary retaining member74is slidably disposed in the alignment cylinder84to allow for vertical movement of the sphere46, legs70, and retaining members40, 74. One of six actuating rods94pushes down on one of three upwardly extending legs70H thereby rotating the sphere46and causing two of three downwardly descending legs70L to move a work surface16capable of horizontal sliding movement over the support surface14from a first position to a second position. In one embodiment of the invention shown inFIG. 12, a hydraulic feedback system maintains downward pressure on the sphere130via a central piston shaft174during the second half of a step.
