ABSTRACT:
Separations of very hydrophilic organic compounds has now been achieved using countercurrent chromatography in which a ligand for the analytes of interest is used to enhance the partitioning of the polar species into the organic layer of an aqueous/organic solvent mixture. The compounds are separated according to their affinity for the ligand in the stationary organic phase. This method of affinity countercurrent chromatography can also be conducted in a pH-zone refining mode.
