ABSTRACT:
In a countercurrent extraction process for extracting at least one alkylpyridine (preferably 2-methyl-5-ethylpyridine) from a liquid feed stream also comprising at least one alkylenepyridine (preferably 2-methyl-5-vinylpyridine) by means of an aqueous acid solution (preferably aqueous H.sub.2 SO.sub.4), the improvement comprises the presence of a gas stream, preferably flowing in the same direction as the liquid feed stream.
