ABSTRACT:
A method and apparatus provide a state observer control system600for a motor106that uses an extended Kalman filter330to predict initial rotor position and afterwards accurately predict rotor position and/or speed under variable types of loading conditions. A control system model300is generated that allows variable setting of an initial rotor position to generate estimated rotor position and speed as outputs. The control system model300includes an EKF (extended Kalman filter) estimator330, speed controller322, a current controller324, and a variable load component310. During operation, EKF estimator330estimates rotor speed327and position333based on reference voltages402, 404and currents1325generated by speed and current controllers322, 324and input from frame transformers326, 328. Additionally, the reference currents and voltages402, 404, 1325are frame-transformed to be used as feedback signals418, 346in the system600and as drive signals to control power to be applied to a motor load602.
