ABSTRACT:
A method for the preparation of 3,3,7-trimethyl-2,9-dioxatricyclo[3.3.1.0.sup.4,7 ]nonane (lineatin, a general name), an aggregation pheromone of an ambrosia beetle, represented by the formula (I), ##STR1## which comprises reacting a keto lactone represented by the formula (II), ##STR2## with diisobutylaluminum hydride and subsequently, treating with an acid; and a method for the preparation of said keto lactone represented by the above formula (II), which comprises oxidizing a hydroxy lactone represented by the formula (III), ##STR3## with chromic acid.
