ABSTRACT:
A printing apparatus10exposes an image onto a photosensitive medium14, having a printhead20with a linear array of exposure sources40, each exposure source12operable at a variable intensity. A shuttle mechanism16moves the printhead20over the photosensitive medium14in a reciprocating motion between one end of a carriage assembly72and the other. An encoder38is coupled to the shuttle mechanism (16) for providing an index encoder pulse60at each of a plurality of increments of position of the shuttle mechanism16along the carriage assembly72. Exposure control logic calculates a shuttle velocity according to index signal timing and adjusts the variable intensity of each exposure source12according to the shuttle velocity.
