ABSTRACT:
An improved safety mechanism for a firearm of either the single or double action type is disclosed in which a slot or hollow is formed in the hammer behind the firing pin. The hollow houses a freely pivotably mounted anvil safety, which in the safe position of the gun is incapable of exerting a force upon the firing pin. An anvil connector bar is upwardly moved under control of the trigger to positively urge the anvil safety to form a firm impact surface against the firing pin, by eliminating the free pivotal movement of the anvil safety.
